Life Cycle Analysis (LCA)
The environmental impact of electrical equipment does not stop
at manufacturing. Installation, operation & maintenance, end-of-life,
and above all energy consumption during lifetime need to be taken
into account.
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) can be used to calculate the overall
environmental impact of electrical equipment over its lifetime ('from
craddle to grave'). Eco-design compares different design approaches
for environmental impact. Lifetime energy consumption is often the
dominant impact of electrical equipment. This website describes
how this impact can be reduced with increasing electrical efficiency.
